STUDENT OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Cambodian Children’s Fund celebrated the achievements of its students at the highly anticipated Student of the Year Awards 2018 Each year, CCF rewards its top students for their outstanding success over the past 12 months. Students, staff and teachers put in a lot of effort in the planning of the the annual award ceremony. And this year was no different. On Saturday, March 23rd, students from all of CCF’s six schools excitedly watched as their peers performed songs and traditional dance, received awards for their academic achievements and danced the night away. In the aftermath of a fire that destroyed Sambok Chab on 17 March, a community where CCF works, the Student Awards came as a welcome relief and an opportunity for the children to have a sense of normality back in their lives after a traumatic week. Awards were given out to the top five students from each school, recognising their hard work, progress and academic achievements throughout 2018. CCF’s Founder and Executive Director, Scott Neeson, proudly announced the winners and presented them with their certificates. Certificates that will no doubt decorate the walls of their family homes. CCF hopes that students will be left feeling inspired by the Student of the Year Awards, and their hard work recognised, encouraging them to keep up their commitment to school. This year also featured a special award, the Model Parents Award. Raising children in the deprived communities of Steung Meanchey poses a lot of potential challenges. Parents need to understand the long term benefit of sending their children to school and help to keep them there. The recipients of the Model Parents Award are parents who have shown their full support and dedication to their children’s studies. The 2018 Student of the Year Awards put the spotlight on some of CCF’s hardest working students. And in the year ahead, CCF hopes to see them continue to thrive at school. Alice Brown/CCF
