Childcare Counselor

Focus: Education, Early Years
Commitment: Full-time (3 months minimum)

The role

The Childcare Counselor volunteer is key role in providing support to CCF kids facing personal, psychological, training or family challenges to promote social change, enhance education, and help them overcome difficulties effectively. The CCF childcare team looks after babies and young children while their parents or care-givers are working. All staff are local Cambodians and are dedicated to ensuring that the children in the nursery get the best care and attention, as well as the best start to life.

Activities can include:

  • Assist counselors in providing mental health support and training as needed.
  • Assist students in exploring options and making decisions to set goals and create an action plan for better outcomes.
  • Keep thorough records of documentation and strictly adhere to CCF information confidentiality conducts.
  • Assist trainers in delivering training or workshops by educating clients about appropriate tools to help them through tough situations.
  • Perform other tasks as appropriately assigned by counselors.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Pursuing at least higher education in psychology, counseling, social work, education or a related field.
  • Knowledge of community mental health resources is preferred;
  • Ability to maintain emotional stability while professionally managing human suffering and mental stresses, with a commitment to high confidentiality.
  • Good computer skills required such as Ms. Office, Internet and e-mail, etc.;
  • Good oral and written communication skills in both English and Khmer;
  • Good communication, negotiation, interpersonal and problem solving skills;
  • Be flexible, honest, trustworthy, patient, respectful and helpful;
  • Encourage, support, and listen to students without being judgmental

The recruiting panel will need to feel confident that the successful candidate understands the CCF values and demonstrates associated behaviors.

  • Be able to volunteer for a period of at least 3 months
  • Able to demonstrate CCF values in day-to-day work
  • Work well in a team, particularly within different cultures
  • Motivated self-starter
  • Responsible and accountable
  • Report on expected outcomes of placement activities and share any produced materials with CCF

OTHER BITS & PIECES

At CCF we care for a lot of children and their families- but we also care about you. To ensure that everyone is safe we require all confirmed volunteers to provide the following before they arrive at CCF:

  • A federal level police screening from your country of residence to ensure you are safe to work with children
  • Two references we can contact for additional background checks
  • Copy of your valid passport
  • A passport photo
  • Proof of your relevant qualifications
  • Health insurance for the duration of your placement at CCF (medical evacuation coverage at a minimum)
