We all go through difficult times, but for the people of Steung Meanchey, going through difficult times often means they won't be able to eat or feed their families. Although we don't usually work on a "hand-out" system, we recognise that when families get into real difficulties often the best way to give them a leg up is to provide them with food, free of charge. We support the family for one to three months or until they can get back on their feet.
Children in our Day Care Program are given one kilogram of rice every day as long as they attend school. Our Garment Program trainees also receive five kilograms of rice per week as attendance incentives, and we provide free rice to CCF kids during Khmer New Year and Pchum Ben (Ancestors' Day). They can take it home to their families and make sure they do not go hungry during these special occasions.
