July 9, 2014 – Teng Thary’s story isn’t unusual here in Cambodia. With few opportunities in the countryside and little education, she moved to Phnom Penh with her husband in the hopes of finding steady work. Life was a constant struggle, and even with both of them working in construction they could barely manage to afford food.

Buying food was a priority and the family had to settle in a hut to survive.

“The water leaked from the ceiling and the floor,” she said. “Half of the walls were missing.”

This was no way for anyone to live and we wanted to help. Thanks to a partnership with World Housing, Teng Thary and her family were the happy recipients of a brand-new home equipped with all the essentials they needed.

“All my stress is now reduced in half,” she said. “Because of my new house I feel very energized.”

This video tells her story, from her difficult past to the bright future.
