The Divine Community: now open!

Thanks to World Housing and the Divine family of Canada, the Steung Meanchey area has once again been transformed. Scott Wilkins – Managing Director of World Housing – addressed a buzzing crowd of CCF families, staff and visitors at the official opening of The Divine Community on March 30th.

“Being in the community yesterday, there was a real sense of magic, and that’s all because of you. This is your community. It is a place for your families to eat, to laugh, to live, to play, and to grow old.”

Home to over 150 people, this benchmark community brings our total to more than 2,300 people living in 461 safe and clean homes in the Steung Meanchey area. While the positive impact of this on our CCF community is almost incalculable, one of our Grannies summed up her own feelings perfectly on the day.

“Now that we have this wonderful World Housing home, my granddaughters and I have a dream for the future.”

The Divine Community contains:

  • 32 standard World Housing homes
  • 2 customised Granny homes – low to the ground for easier access
  • A central pagoda for community events and blessings
  • A classroom
  • A nursery
  • Washhouse blocks
  • Gardens
The three images below show the homes that existed on the site before the Divine Community was constructed.
