The role

The Neeson Cripps Academy (NCA) STEM Lab Assistant is responsible for procuring, preparing and maintaining equipment and supplies for the science and STEM laboratory classes, clubs, projects and the Makerspace/Arts room.

The STEM lab Assistant will also prepare equipment and resources required for activities or demonstrations in the students’ normal class room. He/She will also oversee safety in the science laboratories and manage the inventory lists of equipment in the STEM rooms and associated storage areas.

Key Liaison: All teachers involved in STEAM education

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare all class experiments for teachers’ lesson, which includes:

  1. Confer with teachers about what is required for their activities, demonstrations and experiments

  2. Maintain systems for the allocation of materials and equipments

  3. Ensure all equipment and consumables in place for classes and lending requests

  4. Prepare solutions, equipment and other items required for science and STEAM classes and clubs

  5. Assist the teacher with demonstrations if required

  6. Advise and assist teachers and students in safety matters that relate to the science labs

  • Keep laboratories, science preparation room and Makespace/Arts in good condition, which includes:

  1. Clean all work surfaces, sinks and shelves

  2. Check gas taps and bottles for leakage or need for new supply

  3. Ensure cleaning and correct storage of all equipment after lessons, including monitoring students work benches before and after class.

  4. Maintain a safe chemical storage/handling/disposal system according to safety regulations

  • Carry out general lab duties

  1. Produce/keep up to date inventories of all items/equipments

  2. Keep a record of consumables used and maintain adequate supplies of them

  3. Service and correctly clean simple laboratory equipments

  4. Take care of department printing resources and stationary

  5. Oversee the general security of the STEAM spaces during school hours

  6. Keep on track of equipments and consumables used in the Science classes

  7. Purchase and order equipment, chemicals and consumables for the STEAM spaces and projects in consultation with STEM Coordinator or STEM Officer

  8. Keep records of purchases and confirming safe arrival and storage for the STEAM spaces

  9. Manufacturing simple equipment for laboratory use

  10. Follow the maintenance procedures and schedules for laboratory/Makerspace equipment

  11. Report the damage of equipment to STEM Officer and arrange repairing

  12. Conduct safety audits of science laboratories and room preparation

  13. Collect and take care of flora and fauna specimens within the STEM department

  14. Print and organize STEM documents/resources as required.

  15. Assist in preparing a record of all science and STEM activities/experiments/projects each month


  • Visibly ethical and able to demonstrate CCF values in day-to-day work

  • Bachelor Degree of Sciences Subject or equivalent degree

  • At least 1-year experience in working in a science laboratory

  • Have a sound scientific knowledge, practical skills and qualifications in Chemistry and Physics or Biology

  • Basic computer skills in MS Office, Internet, Email…etc.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Khmer and some English

  • Systematic and well-organised work habits

  • Able to work as team and a good team player

  • Be honest and trustworthy, Patient, respectful and helpful

  • Take high responsibility, be flexible and committed

  • High compassion and commitment to work with community people and poor children
