Health care facilities are generally inaccessible to families in poverty, and dental care and hygiene are no exception. Rural dental facilities are often roadside shacks with painted signs showing illustrations of pulling teeth. As the signs suggest, treatment usually consists of tooth extractions – in typically unsanitary conditions.
Upon admission to the CCF, all children are given a comprehensive medical check-up and immediately begin to receive professional dental treatment.
