The Community Center Nursery was developed as a pilot program in August 2009 to provide nutrition and safe shelter to at-risk infants and toddlers who lacked consistent, daily care. Staffed by skilled and nurturing caretakers, our Nursery has evolved into a full-fledged service protecting, feeding and nurturing fifteen vulnerable babies, as well as offering guidance and assistance to their mothers.

The Nursery is outfitted with a hygienic changing area, individual sleeping hammocks, riding toys and educational toys such as nesting cups and building blocks. Whenever possible, we encourage mothers of Nursery infants to participate as caretakers in the program so they can continue breast-feeding their babies throughout the first year. Mothers who are able to do so receive stipends and food allowances to balance the reduction in the wages they would be earning through subsistence work.
