Community Sense: Party Time at CCF5

CCF is no stranger to hardship and there is no doubt that life in the vicinity of the notorious Steung Meanchey garbage dump is a harsh one. The villages are grim, the work is dire and living environments amongst the worst anywhere. But a hard life does not have to mean a life without fun which is why, on the final Friday of every month, it's party time at CCF's Community Centre (CCF CC). During the day, the CCF CC staff care for those in our Maternal Care Program. Countless people, from 2 weeks to 90 years old, receive its free medical care. Disadvantaged children are bussed to and from school and nearly 100 littlies, from 4 weeks to 6 years, learn, sleep and grow healthy in a safe and caring environment. The Center bustles with those filling up containers with the area's only available clean water.

But when the sun goes down on Party Nights, these programs fall into the background as the Community Center plays host to the surrounding communities. For the younger party-goers, the evening commences with games and competitions. Snacks and sodas are served… and then the dancing begins! The evening passes in the best way possible, with people together, perhaps meeting neighbors for the first time, sharing the good times, however brief - and though they might not even know it, start to build that thing of inestimable value: a Community.
